The chemical structure of wood

Trees are effective at absorbing CO₂ due to their chemical composition, which is surprisingly uniform across different species. A welcome constant in our variable world!

Cellulose forms the foundation of the tree structure, known as (C6H10O5)n, and is the main component of cell walls. This intricate carbohydrate, made up of a chain of glucose molecules, is the result of photosynthesis. Remarkably, cellulose contributes 50 to 80% of the total weight of wood.
